Home remedies to lighten your dark lips
Just like our skin tone, we all are born with different shades of lips. However, certain lifestyle and environmental factors including stress, tobacco indulgence, medication, and health conditions can darken them. In the short term, many natural and home remedies can come to one's rescue and lighten their lips. And as you try these, remember to not replace your medical treatments with them.
Honey-sugar scrub
If you mix sugar crystals and honey to make a scrub, it can be a great exfoliator that removes dead skin cells and promotes a natural glow/brightness. All you have to do is, mix a teaspoon each of sugar and honey. Stir nicely so that they blend well. Now apply this scrub to your lips in small circular movements. Rinse using warm water.
Coconut oil
Coconut oil is loaded with nourishing, hydrating, and moisturizing properties that can keep your lips away from dryness and dullness. Simply take a few drops of this oil and apply it to your lips. Leave it to dry naturally. You can safely repeat this home remedy twice daily for better results. Since it's hydrating, darkening which happens due to skin dehydration takes a backseat.
Aloe vera
Aloe vera is a great natural solution to a lot of skin-related issues. And it works no different when it comes to brightening the lips. It is packed with aloin, which has strong depigmentation properties. This can help you get rid of the dullness or paleness of your lips. Squeeze out fresh gel from aloe vera and apply it to your lips. Rinse later.
Cucumber juice
Wondering how cucumber helps brighten your lips? Well, this green goodness has antioxidants and silica-rich compounds that can fade pigmentation and dullness. For this to work, grind a cucumber and apply the paste to your lips. Leave it to dry for about 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse with water. For better results, do this remedy once or twice daily.
Turmeric
Turmeric can help you brighten your lips and it's not us saying but a study conducted in 2010. In this study, it was found that it worked as a melanin inhibitor. Melanin induces darkness, which is why your lips may appear dark. Just take a tablespoon of milk and add a reasonable amount of turmeric powder to it. Make a paste and rub it.
