Termites at home? Try these natural remedies to remove them
Having termites at home is nothing short of a nightmare, especially when there's a whole clan of them cooping up in your wooden furniture. And while getting rid of them could be taxing, time-consuming, and expensive, some easy natural and home remedies can come to your rescue. Here are five of them that you can put to use to chuck termites away.
Orange oil
Orange oil can come in handy if you are dealing with a small-scale termite attack. This oil is blessed with a good amount of d-limonene, about 92% of it, which can kill these pests instantly. In a study, it was found that five days of contact with vaporized orange oil extract killed about 68% to 96% of termites when directly sprayed on them.
Clove oil
Clove oil is another effective home remedy against termites that can remove them. In a study dated 2001, it was showcased that this oil was able to kill 100% of termites within only two days! All you have to do is, mix three-four drops of clove oil in half a cup of water, mix and pour it into a spray bottle, and use.
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is loaded with acetic acid, which makes it incredibly effective in eradicating termites at home. It destroys the exoskeletons of these pests, repelling or killing them instantly once it is sprayed on them. Squeeze two lemons in a container and add some apple cider vinegar to it. Mix well and pour into a spray bottle.
Neem oil
A natural insecticide and pesticide, neem oil, when comes in contact with termites, stunts their reproductive systems and prevents growth. And if they ingest it, it messes up their digestion, causing them to starve and eventually die. To use this remedy, apply some neem oil to the affected areas of your home, especially in the regions where there is wood.
Sodium borate
Sodium borate, which is also called borax, can kill both dry wood termites as well as subterranean termites. Wondering how it works? Well, when termites consume borax, it dehydrates them and messes up their nervous system. For this to work, it is important that termites come in direct contact with borax. So simply sprinkle some of it on areas where termites are active.
