Conjunctivitis: Home remedies that can offer relief
Conjunctivitis cases are on the rise in Delhi NCR and it is the rainy and humid season that is leading to an exponential increase in the daily cases of this eye infection. Commonly called pink eye, it makes the eye red-pink in color and causes a lot of irritation. Following these five natural and home remedies can offer relief from its symptoms.
Cold compress
The inflammation that conjunctivitis can cause can easily be managed by applying a cold compress to the affected eye. This can also help curb irritation, watering, and swelling (if any) of the eye. All you have to do is, soak a clean washcloth in cold water and squeeze out the excess liquid, and place it over the affected eye for a few minutes.
Rose water
Rose water's abundance of anti-inflammatory properties makes it a useful remedy for pink eye. It also features antiseptic and anti-bacterial agents that can kill conjunctivitis-causing pathogens and offer relief from pain and discomfort. Simply put two drops of rose water in the affected eye and close it for a minute or two so that it gets nicely absorbed.
Basil
Basil is another fantastic home remedy in this case as it is known to have strong anti-bacterial and antioxidant properties. It can also help you find respite from pain, inflammation, burning sensation, redness, and general discomfort in the eyes. Just soak three to four basil leaves in water overnight and use this liquid to wash your eyes the following morning.
Honey
Many medical studies have shown that honey can effectively treat conjunctivitis. A report published in the National Library of Medicine says that honey can reduce redness, swelling, and pus discharge by eradicating the bacteria that cause conjunctivitis. Dilute one teaspoon of honey in two tablespoons of filtered water and wash the affected eye with it. Don't worry if it stings a little at first.
Neem
And finally, we end our list with another strong home remedy that can pace up your healing process. Neem can help you get rid of inflammation, redness, itching, discharge, and pain in the eyes with its potent anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and soothing properties.
