Itchy skin: These home remedies can come to your rescue
Everyone gets itching once in a while. However, if it persists for a longer duration and attacks multiple parts of the body at a time, it can be a sign of an allergy or sickness. While it is frustrating to scratch yourself all the time, some natural and home remedies can help soothe itchy skin and offer respite in no time. Here are some.
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is packed with acetic acid and has been used for ages as a remedy to get rid of itching. Although it works well on the skin, it performs better on an itchy scalp and thus can often be used as a part of your hair care routine. In a 1:1 ratio, dilute apple cider vinegar in water and apply it.
Baking soda
Baking soda is loaded with properties that can remove itching, irritation, and inflammation from the skin. All you have to do is, mix 1/4 cup of baking soda in a cup of warm water and make a fine paste. Once done, apply it directly on the itchy areas of your skin and leave it for some time. Rinse and pat dry.
Wet wrap therapy (WWT)
Wet wrap therapy involves soaking a surgical netting or gauze in warm water and applying these fabric wraps on itchy skin. These wraps soothe the affected area and leave a hydrating effect that eliminates itching and irritation. Grab a gauze and dip it in warm water. Wrap it around the itchy area and then wrap a dry gauge over it. Leave it overnight.
Menthol
Menthol essential oil offers a cooling effect that removes itching, burns, and pains. As per a study conducted in 2012, peppermint oil, which has a good amount of menthol, came out with flying colors to treat itchy skin in those who participated. So to treat yours, all you have to do is to dilute a few drops of this oil in water and apply.
Oatmeal baths
Oatmeal baths are quite soothing and effective when it comes to treating itchy skin, blisters, sunburns, and chickenpox. When you dissolve ground oatmeal in water, it forms a solution that acts as a protective layer on the surface of your skin, helping it retain moisture and relieve dryness/itchiness. You can also bathe with this solution twice a day to feel better.
