Try these home remedies to get rid of brittle nails
A condition that causes nails to become soft, thin, cracked, and split, brittle nails are common to experience but usually hard to get rid of. It can be due to age, lifestyle problems, or nutritional deficiencies, making it a condition that can be taken care of with some natural and home remedies. These remedies involve ingredients that are easily available in one's pantry.
Coconut oil
Coconut oil is quite soothing and nourishing. It is loaded with healthy fatty acids that keep your nails moisturized and clean. Additionally, it can also come in handy to improve nail growth. All you have to do is, warm a tablespoon of coconut oil and apply it to the affected nails. Massage them with this oil and repeat this remedy thrice daily.
Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil is known to reduce nail infections, discolorations, and breakages. It strengthens the nails and prevents them from splitting, which makes it a good way to find respite from brittle nails. Simply dilute a few drops of this oil in vitamin E oil and massage it onto your nails. Wash with lukewarm water after 30 minutes. Repeat this twice a month.
Sea salt
Not only does sea salt strengthen brittle nails, but it also adds shine to them. For this remedy to work, mix a teaspoon of salt grains into a bowl with warm water. To this, add a few drops of lemon oil, wheat germ oil, and frankincense oil. Soak your nails in this mixture for 15 minutes and rinse it with warm water.
Lemon juice and olive oil mix
A mixture of lemon juice and olive oil can do wonders. While the former removes stains, manages damage, and offers your nails a bright sheen, the latter helps strengthen and repair brittle nails. Mix one tablespoon of lemon juice with three tablespoons of olive oil well and then soak your fingers in this solution for 20 minutes.
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is packed with nutrients including calcium, potassium, and magnesium, that can improve the overall health of your nails. The malic and acetic acids present in it feature potent antibacterial and antifungal properties that keep nail infections at bay. Dilute some apple cider vinegar in water and soak your nails in it for a few minutes. Repeat this once daily.
