Don't try these food combinations! Here's why
When it comes to food, little do we know that certain combinations, despite their irresistibly tempting appearance, can be egregiously unhealthy when consumed together. Such offerings are usually good to taste but that's about it - they offer little to no nutrition, hinder digestion, and contribute to an unhealthy lifestyle. Here's why you should steer clear of these five food combinations.
Fish and milk
Fish and milk are only healthy to consume when savored separately and after a gap of long hours from each other. This is because as per Ayurveda, fish is hot while milk is cold, which affects one's digestive abilities and blood circulation. While this combination leading to vitiligo or skin pigmentation is a myth, the above-mentioned reason is concerning enough to avoid it.
Fruits during/after meals
Fruits are a health freak's go-to choice of nutrition. However, many consume it with or after their meals, which is known to be quite unhealthy. The reason? Fruits have a form of natural sugar called fructose, which gets fermented with the carbs and protein present in your meal and hinders digestion. As a result, it can lead to stomach aches and abdomen discomfort.
Milk and fruits
It is best to not pair citrus fruits like grapes, oranges, berries, etc. with milk as the two cause gas, acidity, and acid reflux. This is because these fruits and others like bananas and pineapples produce heat in the body during digestion whereas milk is a coolant, causing imbalance. And since the latter takes time to digest, the fruits start fermenting in the body.
Melon and water
You should avoid drinking water while eating melons like musk melon and watermelon as various studies found the combination to be unhealthy. The findings suggest that melons have high water content and if they are consumed with water, together they can disrupt the body's pH balance, leading to nausea, acidity, and other stomach ailments. The two can also lead to many short-lived gut infections.
Water during meals
While drinking a few sips of water in between meals is fine, gulping large amounts is not. The reason is that it can slow down the digestive fire and cause hindrance in the fuller absorption of nutrients. Additionally, it is believed that it can cause weight gain and lead to acidity, bloating, or GERD. Drink water at least 30-45 minutes after eating.
