Make your own hair gel at home using these recipes
When it comes to hair styling, nothing holds your look together like hair gel. However, many store-bought options contain harmful chemicals that can compromise the long-term health of your hair and scalp. What if we shared a secret: You can perfect your hairstyle every day by crafting homemade hair gels with natural ingredients instead of purchasing them from the market?
Flaxseeds hair gel
Boil a handful of flaxseeds for about eight minutes and ensure that you are stirring often. Once done, allow it to cool down. As it begins to thicken, strain the concoction using a cheesecloth. Transfer it to an airtight container and then refrigerate. You can easily use this for two weeks. Flaxseeds are rich in zinc, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids.
Agar-agar hair gel
Soak some agar-agar in water for around five minutes. Boil the solution and keep stirring continuously. Once done, let it cool down to room temperature. To this, add some aloe vera gel and any essential oil (rose, lavender, or rosemary) of your choice for fragrance. Transfer to a glass jar, and store it in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Citrus hair gel
Take an aloe vera leaf and squeeze out its pulp. Blend it with lemon juice and a few drops of tea tree essential oil. Store this solution in a container or a glass jar and put it inside a refrigerator. Both lemon and tea tree extracts are nourishing for the hair. While the former is packed with antibiotic properties, the latter has antimicrobial agents.
Chia seeds gel
Mix one cup of chia seeds in four cups of water in a pan. Let it soak overnight. The next morning, heat the mixture for 10-15 minutes and stir only once. Filter to discard the seeds and then add vitamin E oil and lavender/sweet almond/castor/vanilla oil. Mix thoroughly. Let the mixture cool naturally and then pour it into a sterilized container.
Okra gel
Cut five okra into small pieces and put them in a pan. Top them with distilled water and boil for 10 to 15 minutes. Once done, strain the liquid using a cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer. Add a few drops of vitamin E oil along with lavender/vanilla essential oil. Mix well and then pour the solution into a bottle after cooling it. Refrigerate.
