Recipe-o'-clock: Beat the heat with these gelato treats
The summer season is shining way too brightly upon us as the mercury levels soar by the day. However, here is a delicious respite from the season's heat that can keep you 'cool,' and for that, you only need a gelato maker and a few ingredients that are easily available in your pantry. All set? Well, take a look at these easy gelato recipes.
Strawberry gelato
Process strawberries, lemon juice, and sugar in a food processor. Add some milk and then process again until smooth. Whisk this mixture until its consistency becomes thin like buttermilk and then mix it with cream in a bowl. Now pour this into a gelato maker, follow the instructions, and place it in there till it's thick and frozen. Freeze it for two-three hours.
Lemon gelato
Mix cream, lemon juice, lemon zest, milk, sugar, and salt. Whisk it till the sugar gets dissolved. Now pour this mixture into a gelato maker and allow it to freeze as per instructions. Once it is somewhat frozen, place it in a freezer-safe bowl and freeze it further for a few hours or till it's completely frozen. Then serve.
Chocolate gelato
Grab a bowl and fill it half with cold water and ice cubes and set aside. Separately, melt some chocolate. Simmer some milk and add egg yolks, sugar, and salt to it. Cook until thick and then add cocoa powder and cornstarch. Add hot milk and melted chocolate. Whisk until smooth, add vanilla, and place it in the larger cold water bowl.
More steps to follow
Stir the mixture, cover with wax paper, and refrigerate overnight. Churn it the next morning and then freeze it in a gelato maker. Post that, transfer it to an air-tight container and freeze it for at least two hours before serving. Enjoy!
Nutella gelato
Combine milk, cream, and sugar in a saucepan. Heat it to dissolve the sugar. Meanwhile, beat eggs and some sugar till thick and pale. Add a tempering of the hot milk. Pour this mixture into the saucepan above and cook on medium heat. Strain it and add Nutella. Mix until Nutella gets dissolved. Put it in a gelato maker and freeze it.
Banana gelato
Heat milk and bananas over medium flame. Don't boil. Allow it to cool and then process it in a food processor. Meanwhile, beat eggs and sugar until the latter gets dissolved. Add banana puree to it and whisk, followed by cream, salt, and vanilla. Mix the egg mixture with the milk-banana concoction and set it in a gelato maker. Freeze as per instructions.
