Glow under the moon: Flowers that bloom at night
Sunlight is a cherished source of warmth and beauty for flowers, yet some bloom exclusively at night. Referred to as "night flowers" due to their dusk blooming, these blossoms add a touch of enchantment to the garden after sunset. Planting some of these night-blooming beauties promises a garden that's wide awake for all the right reasons. Here are some of the most stunning varieties.
Moonflower
The beautiful morning glory's nighttime sibling, the moonflower, comes to life in the dusk light. The evening is when these creamy white blooms open and they only remain in bloom at night. Also, these stunning flowers can drape over and around your garden, giving it a dreamy look. They thrive in moist, well-drained soil, in case you are planning to plant one.
Datura
Commonly found next to roadside trees or gardens is this trumpet-shaped flower called datura. The flower, which night owls find extremely beautiful, is also sometimes fondly called the "Devil's trumpet." Although they complement gardens beautifully, they should be planted far from children and pets as they are quite poisonous. In a single growing season, these sprawling, shrubby warm-season plants often reach fairly large sizes.
Evening primrose
The evening primrose got its name because it only blooms in the evening and into the night. The yellow-colored wildflower has therapeutic properties in addition to being visually striking and emitting a lemony scent. Numerous medicinal applications are known for its leaves, seeds, and oil. Its supplemental oil is recommended for rheumatoid arthritis, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), breast pain, menopause symptoms, and atopic dermatitis.
Night Phlox
Night Phlox is revered as the "queen of the night flowers" and is also referred to as "midnight candy." It blends bright, yellow hues into your space and fills the air with a sweet, honey-like aroma. Aside from that, it can draw bees, butterflies, and birds to create a picturesque scene. They like sunny spots with rich, well-draining soil.
