Say goodbye to chairs, try these floor seating ideas
From Japanese tatami mats and Moroccan low tables to Indian divans, cultures worldwide embrace floor seating. Nowadays, people embrace these options to infuse their homes with a cozy and fashionable ambiance, perfect for relaxation. As festivals approach, why not explore some functional floor seating ideas to maximize your space? Nishith Gupta, Managing Director of Sapana Carpet-Mats, shares ideas for creating comfortable and inviting interiors.
Floor pads and cushions
Gupta suggests floor cushions, pads, and poufs to be the easiest and most accessible options for floor seating, "Place them on top of a comfortable and soft carpet in any room seating area, adding to the grace of the living area or any other room." Additionally, floor these are excellent footrests that can be used on a balcony, gaming area or living room.
Low loungers
When it comes to seating options, floor seating may not be practical for everyone. To strike a balance, consider low-level loungers. "If you are dealing with a space crunch and looking for functional furniture, a low-level lounger can be your go-to pick," suggests Gupta. Choose from options like L-shaped couches, extended sofas, or classic wooden designs with a low profile, to suit your needs.
Elevated platform mattress
With elevated platform mattresses, you may skip placing a couch and position the platform mattress against the wall or a window. This arrangement will seem particularly elegant with those large French windows in living areas. "You do not necessarily have to invest in a new mattress; you can repurpose an existing one by changing its cover," says Gupta.
Bohemian chatai mats
According to Gupta, this is a viable alternative for those who want to keep their furniture to the bare minimum to have enough room for multiple guests. Besides using it to relax, chatai mats come in handy during festivals when many people come over. Throw in a few cushions or place a low-mini table to add richness to your festive-special home decor.
Floor chairs with back support
Floor chairs are unique and functional. They resemble usual chairs but come without legs and armrests. "However, the back support will ensure you are comfortable and your posture stays upright, making it easier to work, read, eat, or watch TV sitting on the floor," explains Gupta. You can customize them with a foldable option to save space when not in use.
