Happy birthday, Stephen King! Revisiting the author's top books
Stephen Edwin King is among the most sought-after American authors and garners fame (and a humongous readership!) for his crime, suspense, and supernatural novels. Many of his horror books have been converted into series and movies, for which he was also dubbed the "King of Horror" in 2006. As he celebrates his birthday today, let's revisit his top-rated novels of all time.
'It'
It is about seven teenagers from a small town named Derry who grow up to be young men and women. Although they are well-placed in life, they can't forget the horror they once encountered. Turns out, they are drawn back to Derry! What unfolds is a nightmare that has no end, by an evil that has no name. Be ready for goosebumps!
'The Stand'
The Stand is eerie, strange, and may even have you jumping out of your skin at certain points. The plot starts with an outburst of plague and if that wasn't already enough to make things miserable for the empire, dark dreams about the coming of a dark man start to haunt the protagonist. It only gets spookier as you turn the page.
'Misery'
A celebrated novelist Paul Sheldon meets his biggest fan, Annie Wilkes. However, who knew that this could become Sheldon's worst nightmare ever? She becomes Sheldon's nurse when he has a bad accident but then she is also a captor who keeps him imprisoned in her isolated house. Published in 1987, it is a gruesome psychological horror thriller.
'The Dead Zone'
This book contains no horror or gore; but is a super goosebump-inducing paranormal story that will keep you on your toes. Published in 1979, it's about Johnny Smith, who becomes involved in an accident and remains in a coma for five years. He develops 'a dead zone' as a part of his brain gets damaged, leading to strange predictions that eerily come true.
'The Shining'
The story revolves around Overlook Hotel, where Jack Torrance starts a new job. Everything goes well until harsh winter strikes - the property becomes aloof, remote, and sinister. Strange things begin to happen and the only one to sense and see the negative forces around the hotel is his five-year-old son named Danny Torrance. Check out more such book recommendations.
