Smart ways to use leftover vegetable peels
When we peel off vegetables, we mostly trash the peels into the bin, thinking of them as leftover scraps that have nothing good to offer. However, did you know that there are several interesting things you could do with them? Well, before you trash the peels of the following veggies next time, pause and remember the smart ways you can use them.
Cucumber peels
Cucumber peels can be used for many things. If you love detox waters, you can prepare one by putting some cucumber peels in a jar and filling it with water. Soak them for five days, dispose of the peels, and then consume the solution. You can also help your plants by placing cucumber peels around them to chase ants away.
Onion skin
You can make natural dyes for wool using onion peels as they produce colors like red and yellow. Fill a jar with water, add onion peels, boil, and then simmer on low for an hour. Another way to use them is to cure leg cramps. Boil some onion skins in water for 15-20 minutes, strain the solution, and drink it as tea before bedtime.
Carrot peels
Carrot peels can be used to prepare vegetable stock by boiling them with water and making soups and curries. They are loaded with fiber. You can also make some healthy chips by seasoning them well and baking them in an air fryer. They also make for a good garnishing ingredient. Coarsely powdered carrot peels work well as an ingredient in salads and soups.
Potato peels
Potato peels offer innumerable health benefits, as believed by experts. A report by the Times of India says that potato peels can protect one from cancer as they are packed with phytochemicals that act as potent antioxidants. You can also use them on your skin to lighten dark spots as they offer a bleaching effect with their antibacterial and phenolic compounds.
