Foodtech startups like Zomato, Swiggy, and the like have taken India by storm, and their hold over the Indian market is increasing day by day.
Now, in a bid to provide insights into Indians' ordering habits, Zomato, on Friday, released an infographic dubbed the 'eat-o-meter', which provides a whole gamut of data ranging from Indians' favorite food to where they order from.

Zomato collected user data from 118 Indian cities
Insights given by Zomato in its 'eat-o-meter' infographic were based on an analysis of user data collected from 118 cities in India over the course of 2018.
Food
For the love of chicken biryani and North Indian cuisine
This might hardly come as a surprise, but Zomato data revealed that the dish Indians ordered the most in 2018 was none other than an all-time-favorite - chicken biryani.
Data also revealed that of all orders placed on Zomato in 2018, 58% orders were for vegetarian food, while 42% were for non-vegetarian food.
Further, North Indian cuisine was thrice as popular as fast food.

2018's biggest single order was worth Rs. 1.84 lakh!
The maximum number of orders placed by a single user in 2018 was 1,804, while the biggest single order placed in 2018 in terms of value was a whopping Rs. 1.84 lakh.

What Zomato data tells us about Indians' ordering habits
Contrary to popular belief, Zomato found that users were five times more likely to order from home than from their offices.
The foodtech unicorn also revealed that the two days on which Indians preferred to order the most were Wednesdays and Sundays.
Interestingly, it was also found that Zomato users, on an average, spent 11 minutes to decide on what to order.

Digital wallets dominated in terms of modes of payment
In terms of preferred modes of payment, 33% of orders were paid for via digital wallets, while 29% of orders were paid for via cards. Meanwhile, 28% of orders were paid for through the cash-on-delivery option. Other modes of payment accounted for the remaining 10%.
Geographies
Which cities ordered the most?
In terms of geographical locations, it was found that Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, respectively, led the charts in 2018 when it came to orders in Tier-I cities.
Among Tier-II cities, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur, and Vizag topped the charts respectively.
Interestingly, Indore saw more post-midnight orders than Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Zomato's discounted dining-out service, Gold, was most used in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi NCR, respectively.
Other details
Zomato funded 22 lakh Akshaya Patra meals
It's interesting to note that Zomato's Piggyback loyalty program, launched in July 2018, helped Indians save a whopping Rs. 17.6cr on orders in the remaining months of the year.
Even better, every order made using the program contributed Re. 1 to the Akshaya Patra Foundation, an NGO that runs school lunch programs.
The money raised through Piggybank was enough to fund 22 lakh Akshaya Patra meals.
