Tamil Nadu YouTuber's house ransacked, poop dumped inside
What's the story
In a shocking incident, Tamil Nadu-based YouTuber 'Savukku' Shankar's house was vandalized by a group of 20 people on Monday.
Disguised as sanitation workers, the assailants allegedly barged into Shankar's Kilpauk residence and dumped sewage mixed with human waste inside.
The case has been transferred to the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) after he accused the Greater Chennai Police and the Commissioner of Police of mishandling the case.
Attack details
Shankar's mother was alone during the incident
According to Shankar, the attackers also issued a chilling warning before leaving: "Next time, we will set fire to you inside the house."
Shankar's mother, Kamala, was the only one present when the attack happened.
Shankar, a vocal critic of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), claimed this was done at the behest of the president of Congress's Tamil Nadu unit and the commissioner of the Greater Corporation Commissioner.
He had questioned the distribution of modern sewage removal vehicles.
Corruption link
Attack linked to Shankar's corruption expose
Kamala also hinted the attack could be a fallout of her son's recent expose on alleged corruption by senior city police officials in the purchase of sewage trucks.
Shankar has also released CCTV footage that apparently shows the group vandalizing his house.
In her complaint, Kamala said she attempted to call her son during the attack, but the assailants took her phone and video-called him instead.
Protest staged
Group staged protest outside Shankar's house
After the attack, the gang of attackers reportedly protested outside Shankar's house, demanding his arrest.
The YouTuber alleged that the attackers were acting on orders from Chennai Police Commissioner A. Arun.
"Suvukku Shankar....made serious allegations against the Greater Chennai Police and the Commissioner of Police. In light of these concerns, the Commissioner of Police requested...the investigation be transferred to another agency. As per the request, the case has now been handed over to the CBCID," a release by DGP said.
