Punjab: Youth has his girlfriend raped to avoid marriage
A Jalandhar youth resorted to inhumanity allegedly to avoid marriage to his girlfriend: he got her raped so he could refuse on this excuse. According to the victim, she and Harpreet Singh Happy had decided to get married after a long-term relationship. But he left her to be raped by his friends on the same day he was taking her to meet his parents.
What happened?
At 10:30pm on July 20, 19-year-old Happy picked up his girlfriend from her house to meet his parents, then took her to a local market and asked her to wait there. After he left, his friends Bindu and Ravi came and said they would escort her to his house. But they took her to a room and then an abandoned haveli and raped her.
Main conspirator arrested, hunt on for alleged rapists
Police said medical examination had confirmed sexual assault. Happy has been arrested and charged with gangrape, criminal conspiracy and cheating. Bindu and Ravi would be arrested on similar charges. All three hail from Talwan village.
