Do you have trouble sleeping? A salary raise might help
The higher your salary raise, the better you sleep. A survey commissioned by Sunday Mattresses ahead of World Sleep Day claims there is a direct relation between your salary hike and your quality of sleep. Called the India Sleep and Wellness survey, it was conducted among 345 working professionals aged over 25 in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Read on for more.
The better you sleep, the more productive you are
According to the study, productivity and sleep are also directly related. More than two-thirds of sound-sleepers believed they were 100% productive at work. However, over half of those who didn't get enough sleep reported to be 75% (or less) productive. Moreover, sleep quality worsens with age. People over 45 are three times more likely to not sleep well than those younger than 25.
Singles and parents sleep better
Interestingly, the survey also found out that singles and couples with kids (irrespective of children's ages), sleep easier as they are more content compared to childless married people. However, the study warns parents against sharing bed with kids, as those who do, are 50% more likely to have problems in sleeping. Separate sleeping areas is a good idea for both, couples and children.
Smoking, daily commute time also affects sleep
Moreover, smokers are 52% more likely to be poor sleepers as compared to non-smokers. Notably, the more the number of cigarettes smoked, the worse is the quality of sleep, warns the study. Also, people who spend more than an hour in commute daily are likely to sleep insufficiently as against those with commute time ranging between 15 minutes to 1 hour.
Mumbaikars depend on alarms to wake up
About 40% of respondents used alarm every day to wake up. At 50%, Mumbaikars used them the most. People of Bengaluru hit the sack the earliest (between 10-11pm), Mumbaikars the last, past midnight. Because it's relatively quieter than Mumbai or Delhi, Bengaluru residents sleep easier, better. Finally, those who eat within two hours before going to bed are 50% more likely to sleep badly.
