m-Aadhaar, 9 other IDs will be acceptable at airports now
You can now use mobile Aadhaar as ID proof while entering airports, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has said. It is one of the 10 acceptable ID proofs listed in its latest communication. However, some can be used only by particular sections. This is to ensure "a bonafide passenger is travelling on a valid ticket and to avoid any controversy/argument with security staff".
What all documents will now be accepted at airports?
Most people can use as ID proof their passport, voter ID, Aadhaar/m-Aadhaar, PAN card, driving license, or a passbook from a nationalized bank (with photo). Employees can use their service ID and students can present their student ID. For pensioners, the pension card or related documents (with photo) are acceptable. The disabled will have to produce disability ID card or handicapped medical certificate.
What if you don't have any of these?
If someone fails to provide any of these 10 ID proofs, they can submit an ID certificate issued by a group-A gazetted officer of the central or state government. International flyers will compulsorily have to produce their passport and air ticket. However, the latest BCAS notification exempts minors accompanied by parents from having to produce any ID proof, provided the guardian has an ID.
