#StaySafeDelhi: Flood warning issued as Yamuna's water level crosses danger-mark
The incessant rains in Delhi rose Yamuna's water level to alarming levels forcing the Delhi government to sound a flood alert. At 7 PM, on Friday, the water level in Yamuna was recorded at 204.10 meters and it is expected to rise further. Notably, the preparations to evacuate families living in low-lying areas has been started by the Irrigation and Flood Control department.
The water levels: What's normal and what's not
The warning level of Yamuna is 204 meters and danger level is marked at 204.83 meters. From 204.10 meters on Friday, the water level rose to 204.96 meters today. It is expected to rise to 205.40 meters. On Thursday morning, Haryana released 1.36 lakh cusecs of water and another 1.87 lakh cusecs in the evening. The water released on Friday was in lesser quantity.
Apart from released water, rainfalls to increase levels too
While the water released from adjoining states are bound to increase levels, the MeT department has forecast rains as well. An official said low pressure over Western Uttar Pradesh, will ensure rainfall in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and northwest Madhya Pradesh, for the next two days. Amid this, the Delhi government is preparing itself for any tragedy, whatsoever.

How the authorities plan to fight tragedy
The government has deployed rescue boats to help those living in floodplains and low-lying areas. Meanwhile, Quick Response Teams have been formed to inform people about the impending danger. Announcements are being made on loudspeakers about safety measures and dos and don'ts. The government has also readied relief material. The areas under threat are Sabhapur Chauhan, Sonia Vihar, Sadatpur, Sherpur, Usmanpur, and Garhi Mandi.
Flood control room is working round the clock, tells official
District Magistrate K Mahesh said flood control order of 2018 was issued by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He said a central control room was working since June 15 and will work round the clock till mid-October. Further, he said all EEs (Executive Engineers) have been asked to stay alert and remain in constant touch with the control room.
