Woman wakes up from coma, accuses husband, in-laws of murder
Domestic violence is a concerning issue in India and cases of violence against women keep emerging almost regularly. In another horrifying incident, a Delhi woman, who went into a coma last month, regained consciousness and accused her husband and in-laws of trying to slit the throats of her and her children's. But, medical reports indicated that the woman's wounds were "self-inflicted." Here's what happened.
Police were informed that woman tried to kill self, children
On November 17, police were informed that the woman, Mohsina, in Hauz Rani, had slit the throats of her three-year-old daughter and 18-month-old son. Following this, she allegedly tried to commit suicide. When police reached the spot, they found the three lying in a pool of blood. Mohsina's daughter succumbed to her injuries in a hospital, while she and her son were undergoing treatment.
Woman says husband beat her till 4 am
Now, after the woman woke up from the coma, she gave a different account of the incident. According to her, on November 16, when she was sleeping with her two children, her husband Shamim came around midnight and started abusing and beating her, which continued till 4 am. She added that in the meantime, her mother-in-law and father-in-law also came to check.
Woman tried to stop husband, brother-in-law from killing daughter
Going further, Mohsina said that around 7am, when she was about to sleep, she saw Shamim and Saleem, her brother-in-law, trying to slit her daughter's throat. When she intervened, they cut her finger. But she still tried to stop them and in reaction, they slit her throat. Notably, Mohsina's family had also accused Shamim and his family of trying to kill their daughter.
Families now fighting over custody of the 18-month-old boy
The post-mortem report of the three-year-old deceased girl has been collected by the police but it's not conclusive and will be sent to forensic experts. Police said the in-laws will be interrogated and they are looking into the role of Shamim and his brother. Meanwhile, both the families (Mohsina and Shamim's) are fighting over the custody of the 18-month-old boy, who survived.
