Woman shouts pro-Pakistan slogans, slapped with sedition, sent to custody
An event in Bengaluru, organized against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), took an unprecedented turn when a woman raised pro-Pakistan slogans. She made the remarks in the presence of Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who intervened and asked her to stop. A sedition case was slapped and she has been sent to judicial custody. Her bail plea will be taken up by a court on Monday.
"Pakistan Zindabad", said the woman; shocking everyone
Identified as Amulya, the woman was invited on the dias to address the gathering after Owaisi came on stage. There she stunned everyone by saying "Pakistan Zindabad" and also asked the attendees to join in. The chief of AIMIM then attempted to snatch the mic from her. He purportedly said, "Kya bol rahein hain aap (What are you saying)?", but Amulya continued.
AIMIM isn't linked to her, clarified Owaisi
Not only Owaisi, but organizers also tried stopping her but she persisted. Quickly, the politician distanced himself from her. He said, "Neither me nor my party has any link with her. We denounce her. The organizers shouldn't have invited her here. If I knew this, I would not have come here. We are for India and we no way support our enemy nation Pakistan."
"Don't come close to Muslims if you support another country"
He added, "Hum Bharat ke hain, Bharat ke hi rahenge (We are from India, we will remain here). If you want to shout slogans supporting another country, do not even come close to the Muslims."
What she said was wrong: Amulya's father
Soon after the event concluded, Amulya was arrested. "We have filed a suo moto case against her under Sections 124A(sedition), 153A and B (promoting enmity between different groups) and imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration)," B Ramesh, DCP Bengaluru (West), said. Amulya's father also condemned her words. He said, "She was joined by some Muslims and wasn't listening to me!"
BJP and Congress condemned the incident
The incident sparked reactions across the political spectrum with Karnataka Congress saying, "Shouting slogans in favor of an enemy nation is wrong." Meanwhile, BJP Lok Sabha MP Shobha Karandlaje tweeted, "These protests r not against #CAA, it's a plot by Pro-Pak elements to create unrest in d country. (sic)" But Imran Pasha of JD(S) claimed Amulya was "planted" by a rival group.
