Bihar: Woman sacrificed by family on Tantrik's advice
In a rather appalling incident, a 30-year-old woman was hacked to death in Sitamarhi's Shivhar village, Bihar, by her brother-in-law, reportedly on a tantrik's advice. Sunil Mukhiya, Savita Devi's brother-in-law, was apparently told by a tantrik that his wife wasn't able to conceive because of Savita who "practised witchcraft". He told them that Savita was a witch and killing her would benefit the family.
The accused has been arrested: Police
"Sunil, his wife, the tantrik and Sunil's younger brother Viru (who helped him in the killing) were arrested on the basis of the complaint filed by Devi's mother. Devi's husband Bhagwan Mukhiya was interrogated, but released as nothing suspicious was found against him," a Sitamarhi police officer said. "Puja evidence has been collected and the sorcerer has admitted to performing some rituals," he added.
Atrocities against women on a rise in Bihar
Atrocities against women are on a rise in Bihar. Earlier this month, 30 school girls were thrashed in Bihar for resisting sexual harassment and objecting to lewd graffiti. A special investigation team of police is probing the case.
