Mentally unstable woman shouts pro-Pakistan slogans at India Gate
On Sunday, a woman believed to be in her 30s came close to the Amar Jyoti Jawan at India Gate in New Delhi and shouted pro-Pakistan slogans. The woman, identified as one Sultana Khan, was picked up by police and the initial probe revealed she is mentally unstable. Police have found there are no links to Pakistan and that she is an Indian citizen.
Woman threw slipper, shouted 'Pakistan Zindabad'
The incident took place while the army officers were rehearsing for the Army Day wreath-laying ceremony when the woman was spotted by security officials. She apparently threw a slipper at the memorial and shouted "Pakistan zindabad". A video of the incident surfaced on social media which purportedly showed the woman being restrained by defense personnel from coming too close to the Amar Jawan Jyoti.
The woman belongs to Telangana, came to Delhi from Mumbai
Held by officials of Delhi police, Sultana was taken to Parliament Street police station. Reportedly, she couldn't recall her address or give other important details. Later, the police learned Sultana is originally from Telangana and came to Delhi from Mumbai. Notably, two days ago, her family had filed a missing report in Nizamabad in Telangana.
Nothing suspicious was found: Police
"She told us that she came to Delhi from Mumbai by train. We took her for a medical examination and she was also jointly questioned by police and intelligence sleuths. Nothing suspicious was found. Doctors found that she was mentally challenged," police said.
The family has been informed
Police said the woman's family has been informed and they are being awaited. No complaint has been registered in this case. "She could not give more details about herself and therefore we are waiting for her family to arrive. Her husband's details are not available. She was divorced 12 years ago," said Deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi) Madhur Verma.
