Kolkata: Woman harassed, molested by group of 10; all held
A woman in her early 30s was allegedly molested by a group of 10 at a metro station in the southern part of Kolkata, police said. All of the accused were arrested on the basis of the woman's complaint, a police official added. The incident took place around 4pm yesterday when she boarded a metro from the Esplanade station. Accused harassed her aboard train, molested her when she de-boarded
When the woman was inside the metro, the accused started harassing. Once she de-boarded the train after eight stations at Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station, the accused molested her. The victim, a resident of Konnagar (Hooghly), then complained to the RPF personnel-on-duty, following which the 10 were detained. They were then handed over and arrested by personnel at the Regent Park Police Station, cops said.
Accused were booked under several Sections of IPC
The accused were booked under IPC Sections 354 (use of criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), 354B (assaulting a woman with the intention of disrobing or compelling her to be naked). They were also booked under Section 509s (word or gesture intended to hurt the modesty of a woman) and Section 34 (criminal act done by several persons).
