Assam: Woman faces murder charges after killing father during rape-attempt
A 25-year-old woman in Assam's Biswanath has been charged for killing her father allegedly when he attempted to rape her. The incident happened in March. She resisted when he approached her, but then he picked up an axe. She ended up killing him with the same weapon. Other family members then helped her hide the body. But police say they're probing other angles too.
Father had been abusing his daughter since long, family claims
According to the family, the 71-year-old used to sexually abuse his daughter, an MA student, regularly. At 11pm on March 3, when he again approached her, she resisted. A brawl broke out in the family. Suddenly he picked up an axe, but she overpowered him and ended up killing him. Her mother, brother and two sisters then dug a pit in their backyard and buried the body.
Woman charged with murder, others with concealing evidence
On May 11, the family lodged a missing complaint in an attempt to throw police off their trail. But "the statements they provided during questioning did not corroborate," said SP Diganta Kumar Chaudhary. During the probe, they found the recently-dug pit. When they questioned the family, the woman confessed. All five have been arrested. The woman has been charged with murder, and the others for concealing evidence.
