Pune: Woman gang-raped, friend beaten by men posing as activists
A 21-year-old woman was gang-raped by three men pretending to be human rights activists in Pune. The incident occurred late Thursday in the Bopdev Ghat area of the city where she had gone with a friend. The friend was also assaulted by the perpetrators during this horrifying event. Police have apprehended one suspect, Raje Khan Karim Pathan, a 36-year-old resident of Kondhwa.
Suspect arrested in connection with assault
According to an India Today report, Pathan allegedly approached the victims in a car under the guise of being a human rights activist. He claimed that couples were not allowed in the area and proceeded to take photographs of the pair before launching his attack. The woman was then coerced into his car by one of the accused. They took her to another place in the car, then pulled over and gang-raped her.
Search underway for remaining suspects
The search is ongoing for the other two suspects involved in the assault. Ten teams from the Crime Branch and Detection Branch (DB) have been deployed to locate and arrest these individuals. Meanwhile, senior police officers and Crime Branch teams are investigating the case, following up on leads from preliminary investigations that revealed multiple injuries sustained by the victim.
