Woman delivers baby mid-air on Etihad-flight, aircraft diverted to Mumbai
An Etihad flight, bound for Jakarta from Abu Dhabi was diverted to Mumbai this morning after a passenger delivered a baby mid-air. The woman, an Indonesian national, delivered a baby girl after her water broke. Reports said the aircraft was flying above the Arabian Sea when this happened. The mother and child were rushed to Seven Hills Hospital in Andheri upon landing.
Child and mother were attended by airport doctors
The pilot of the EY-474 flight got in touch with Mumbai Air Traffic Control for an emergency landing. "The woman and child were attended to by airport doctors before being taken to the hospital," an official said. The child is said to be stable but might be kept at neonatal intensive care unit. Her mother underwent surgery for placenta removal and was shifted to ICU.
Flight was delayed for two hours, spokesperson reveals
"As a result of the diversion, the flight will be two hours delayed arriving into Jakarta. We regret any inconvenience caused. The safety of our guests and crew is Etihad Airways' highest priority," an airline spokesperson said.
