An Etihad flight, bound for Jakarta from Abu Dhabi was diverted to Mumbai this morning after a passenger delivered a baby mid-air.

The woman, an Indonesian national, delivered a baby girl after her water broke.

Reports said the aircraft was flying above the Arabian Sea when this happened. The mother and child were rushed to Seven Hills Hospital in Andheri upon landing.

    What happened

Child and mother were attended by airport doctors

The pilot of the EY-474 flight got in touch with Mumbai Air Traffic Control for an emergency landing.

"The woman and child were attended to by airport doctors before being taken to the hospital," an official said.

The child is said to be stable but might be kept at neonatal intensive care unit. Her mother underwent surgery for placenta removal and was shifted to ICU.
