Meet UP's woman cop who arrested BJP leaders, now transferred
In a recent turn of events, the woman police officer Shreshtha Thakur who, arrested five BJP leaders for creating trouble while officers were discharging their duties, was transferred today. The woman police officer who was serving in UP's Bulandshahr district was given this notice just a week after this row took place. Reportedly, Thakur is being shifted to Bahraich post the incident.
BJP's take on woman cop's transfer
Bharatiya Janata Party's city president Mukesh Bhardwaj reportedly said that Shreshtha Thakur's transfer was bound to happen so that the leaders as well as party's pride remained unhurt. While saying this, he levelled allegations against Thakur saying that the latter used objectionable language against CM Yogi and other party leaders. Bhardwaj also alleged that the cop had asked for a bribe.
The altercation between Thakur, BJP leaders: How it started?
On June 22, Thakur and her team were checking vehicles when she stopped a commuter for not wearing helmet in Bulandshahr's Syana area and fined him for Rs. 200. The accused identified himself as a BJP leader and started an altercation, thereby calling other BJP leaders. It turned into an heated argument after BJP city president Bhardwaj arrived, finally accusing the cop of bribery.
Shreshtha Thakur's say on transfer notice
Meanwhile Shreshtha Thakur said that she is okay as that's a part of her job. Adding to it, the woman police officer who has been transferred to Bahraich as of now said that she doesn't remember any of her batchmates being transferred. However, Thakur did mention that she has been posted quite far from her home which is in Delhi.
In UP, are transfers the reward for functioning honestly?
Police officers being transferred is not surprising and this is not the first time. Senior police officers of Saharanpur and Agra were transferred a week after they took against BJP and RSS workers for rioting in Saharanpur and attacking a police station, thrashing a police officer, burning cop's vehicles and releasing arrested RSS workers from police lock-up in Agra in April.
