Student commits suicide after mother scolds her over phone addiction
Heated arguments with loved ones often make one deeply upset and sometimes such arguments lead one to take extreme steps. Like this woman, who committed suicide by setting herself on fire, a day after she had an angry conversation with her mother, who scolded her for continuously chatting on her phone. The incident took place in Shankarpally, Hyderabad. Here's what happened.
Mother suspected woman having affair, took phone away
Last week, on Friday, the 20-year-old woman's mother reprimanded her over her addiction to the cell phone and for regularly talking and chatting on it. Her mother suspected that she was talking to her boyfriend. So, the concerned mother took away the phone and found that her daughter was using a new SIM card. This enraged her further and an argument ensued.
Woman set herself on fire when no one was home
Deeply upset by the tiff with her mother, the woman, a second year BTech student, decided to end her life. According to Shankarpally police station inspector, N Lingaiah, she doused herself in kerosene and set herself on fire on Saturday, when no one was present at the house. The woman died on the spot and no suicide note was found.
Previously, another girl committed suicide after mother scolded her
The deceased had been staying with her mother and brother, cops said, adding, a case has been registered under Section 174 of CrPc. In a similar case in August, a 19-year-old girl in Jharkhand spent the money, given by her mother to buy groceries, on clothes for herself. After her mother scolded her for this, she committed suicide by jumping into a well.
