Mumbai's buildings to now get Aadhaar-like UIDs!
Mumbai's buildings now have their own Aadhaar-like identity numbers! The BMC has started the process of issuing unique identification (UID) numbers to the city's structures. Stickers mentioning the 15-digit UID will be pasted on the entrance and notice-board. 27 lakh buildings registered in property tax records will be issued such stickers. The aim is to ease identification of establishments for provision of government services.
The formula for the 15-digit identity number
The 15-digit number will comprise of ward number, property tax section number, number of flats in the building, and adjoining building number. "All BMC transactions of various departments will become available through a single click," said Dr BG Pawar, deputy municipal commissioner, assessment and collection department. The number will be available on BMC's online portal for tax.
Advantages of the scheme
Advantages of the UID initiative are several: it will help in proper and easy identification of buildings, and citizens will now be able to check matters related to their societies online. It will also reduce time taken for official work as now all information, such as whether a colony has paid its bills, will be available on a click.
