Government will bring back Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi: Sitharaman
The government will bring back Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi, who fled the country before the Rs. 12,650 PNB scam came to light, asserted Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today. "Modi and Choksi haven't gotten away, they ran away," she said at the fourth edition of Times Network's India Economic Conclave in Delhi. "We have to be careful that the system doesn't allow such loopholes."
Sitharaman defends decision not to reveal Rafale price
In an interaction, Sitharaman said the government's decisions were "policy-based" and not "discretion-based." "Corruption-free government means money is spent for right cost and right individuals," she said. Talking about the decision not to reveal the Rafale price, she said if she did that, she will be "helping the enemy government too by revealing the avionics, the kind of weapons attached to it."
'More concerned about national interest than pleasing the opposition'
About Rahul Gandhi attacking the government over the Rafele decision, she said, "National interest is paramount for our government over pleasing the opposition party on the issue of revealing figures of crucial defense deals."
'Government committed to reforms, implemented GST despite teething problems'
She added the government is committed to reforms, mentioning the GST as an example. "GST may be having teething problems but it has been implemented successfully by the government. Saw every kind of pressure to postpone its implementation but the government is committed to reforms and has the courage to take bold reforms like GST," she said.
