Man seeks gold-loan against cows after hearing they 'contain gold'
A couple of days back Bharatiya Janata Party's West Bengal chief made the appalling claim that cow's milk contains gold, and we're already witnessing its repercussions. Reportedly, a man showed up at a Manappuram Finance Limited branch in Dankuni area to seek a gold loan against his two cows. He hoped to secure a loan since he heard that Indian cows contain gold.
'If I get loan, I could expand my business'
According to local news channels, the man seeking a gold loan said, "I have come here for a gold loan and hence I have brought my cows with me. I heard that there is gold in cow milk." He added, "My family depends on these cows. I have 20 cows and if I get the loan, I will be able to expand my business."
Others inquiring about loan amounts against their cows
Notably, according to Garalgachha gram panchayat Pradhan Manoj Singh, this isn't an isolated incident. Singh told India Today that since Ghosh made the "gold in cow milk" claim, he has been approached by several people, asking how much they should be able to get against their cows. "They say their cows produce 15-16L milk per day so they should get the loan," he said.
'Ghosh should get Nobel prize for gold in cow claim'
Singh said, "Ghosh should get Nobel prize for the situation he has created and for claiming that there's gold in cow milk." He added, "I'm ashamed after hearing all this. A political leader should talk about roti, kapda, makan. He should think about development. But they (BJP) only talk about religion and Hindutva. People can see what's happening, and they'll only take a decision."
What was the controversial remark made by Ghosh?
Speaking at a program in Burdwan on Monday, Ghosh had said that foreign cow breeds, which he likened to "aunties", have straight backs. Speaking about the hump of Indian breeds, Ghosh said, "The hump has 'Swarna Nari'. When sunlight falls on the hump, it produces gold. That is why the milk of desi cow is yellowish or golden."
