Cause of the fire not known yet, probe launched
The victims have been identified as Sakina, Mohin, Tasleem and Dawood Kapasi. According to Deputy Fire Officer Hemant Parab, the fire "broke through" the AC in a bedroom. Of the four who were sleeping there, one died due to burn injuries and the others due to suffocation. The department, however, said they are suspicious about the cause of the fire. An investigation has been launched.
High number of fire incidents expose blatant violation of norms
Recently, major fires have broken out in different places of Mumabai: RK Studios, a shop in Saki Naka, La Mer building (Bandra), an under-construction building (Juhu), and the Behrampada slums. These incidents have thrown light on the blatant violation of fire safety norms and indifference of the authorities. In the Kamala Mills incident, the 1Above restaurant didn't even have fire exits; 14 people died.
