Four killed, several injured in violence during WB Panchayat elections
Four people were killed in separate incidents of violence and several others were injured in the single-phase Panchayat elections in West Bengal. The incidents occurred at North 24 Parganas, Nadia, South Parganas and Murshidabad districts. Meanwhile, the police are yet to confirm another death in Tapan in South Dinajpur district. The elections recorded over 41.5% polling till 1 pm.
Clashes outside polling booths, bombs hurled across the state
A CPI(M) supporter was killed and others injured when a bomb hurled outside polling stations in North 24 Parganas and South Parganas district. One person was killed and two others injured in clashes in Nadia district. Independent candidates were injured when chili powder was thrown at them in Contai district. Police resorted to lathi charge and tear gas to disperse a mob in Bhangar.
