Since 2011, over Rs. 1,000cr allocated for tea-garden workers: Mamata
The West Bengal government has allocated over Rs. 1,000cr for the welfare of tea garden workers in the state since 2011, CM Mamata Banerjee said today. Banerjee, on International Tea Day, tweeted her government has also been providing 35 kg of rice at Rs. 2 per kg to the tea garden workers and also electricity, and water supply for free to tea gardens.

Bengal may set minimum wage for tea garden workers
International Tea Day is observed since 2005 in tea-producing nations, including India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Vietnam, and Indonesia, among others. The minimum wage advisory board meeting was held in Siliguri on Thursday, where wage rate was discussed and it's said that soon a minimum wage for tea workers would be recommended. The current daily wage for tea-workers is Rs. 176 in Bengal.
