'Wanted' sharpshooter Tanwir arrested in Delhi encounter
Delhi Police nabbed 'wanted' gangster Tanwir alias Munnawar, a sharpshooter of the 'Chhenu' gang, in an encounter in Okhla Mandi this morning. However, his aide escaped. Tanwir, a Kasganj resident, had a reward of Rs. 70,000 on his head. He faces a number of charges including loot, murders and firing at policemen. Two cops were also injured in the encounter.
Police had set up barricades after receiving intel about Tanwir
Delhi Police had information that Tanwir would visit Okhla Mandi this morning with an accomplice. They barricaded the area and set up a security cover to restrict their movement. When he arrived with his accomplice in a car, they fired upon the police team, which retaliated. Tanwir was hit but was wearing a bulletproof jacket. Cops finally managed to overpower him and arrested him.
Tanwir's role in Kasganj clashes to be probed
Tanwir is facing a dozen murder cases, including the 2017 killings of two youths in Brahmpuri and Seelampur which was caught on CCTV cameras. In 2016, he fired at police personnel while trying to escape. He is also accused in several robbery cases. Police are going to investigate if he was involved in the recent Kasganj clashes, in which one person was shot dead.
