    What's the story

In a horrifying incident, a mentally-ill woman was raped by a 20-year-old drunk man in broad daylight on a footpath in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam.

The heinous crime took place on a road near the city's railway-station.

The worst part was even passers-by didn't stop to rescue her.

An autorickshaw-driver captured a video and reported to police after which the culprit, Ganji Siva, was arrested.

    Horrific Video

Video shows many people passing by

The video of the shocking incident shows the culprit raping the victim behind a tree on a footpath at around 1 pm.

It clearly shows the man, in an inebriated state, committing the crime but no one from the bystanders or the passers-by intervenes.

Despite the incident occurring close to the main road, in broad daylight, nobody came forward to help the woman.

    Details

Ganji Siva, reportedly a history sheeter

Visakhapatnam Police said that the autorickshaw driver who recorded the incident didn't know "how to react," and approached them with the footage.

The cops arrested Ganji Siva after identifying him on the basis of the evidence.

The accused is reportedly a history-sheeter.

Police said the rape survivor is a mentally ill and homeless woman. She is undergoing treatment for her injuries.

    Senior police official's statement

Visakhapatnam Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Branch & Security), PV Ravi Kumar, said: "While the area where the incident happened is close to the railway station, the particular road is quite isolated. Both the victim and the accused are homeless, and he was drunk."
