Woman shot at, 2 councilors beaten unconscious in Manipur
A 41-year-old woman and two municipal councilors were violently attacked in Bishnupur district, Manipur, on Tuesday. The woman, identified as Umarani, was found with a bullet wound in her right leg. Simultaneously, two representatives from the Kwakta Municipal Council were discovered critically injured and unconscious. As of Wednesday evening, the attackers remain uunidentified,with no group or organization claiming responsibility for these brutal acts.
All 3 were attacked near an oil pump
According to the police, all three were attacked near an oil pump in the southern Bishnupur district on Tuesday night. Police added that the two councilors were found unconscious with severe injuries on their bodies a short distance from the scene where the woman was discovered. The councilors were later identified as Md Abdul Karim (44) and Md Nasiruddin (46.)
Victims rushed to hospital, attackers still unidentified
Following the attacks, the three were immediately transported to an Imphal hospital for urgent medical treatment. The district of Bishnupur has been in the news lately over attacks on Indian Army personnel. Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and two others injured when armed miscreants opened fire last week. On Tuesday, a women-led group confronted the Indian Army and forced the release of 11 miscreants who had been detained with arms and ammunition in Bishnupur.
