Pune: 4 stray dogs burnt alive; 16 poisoned to death
In a shocking incident of extreme animal cruelty, at least four stray dogs were tied with a rope and burnt alive while 16 others were poisoned to death last week in Pune's Baner in Maharashtra. Members of NGO, AaCT India (Action for Animals against Cruelty and Trauma), said decomposed bodies and charred body parts of the dogs were found in bushes. Read more!
Dogs left howling in pain as fire engulfed them
AaCT India representative, Neena Rai, said that they talked to people in the locality about the charred and decomposed bodies of stray dogs. During the investigation, some local workers said people from a nearby office tied up four dogs and dragged them for some 50 meters before pouring petrol and setting them on fire. The NGO claimed it found around 21 dog bodies.
A puppy was also burnt alive, claims a resident
A Baner resident stated: "One small puppy was also burnt. We collected skulls and whatever we could find and took it for a postmortem with help of police." Police were further investigating the matter. A criminal case would be registered after postmortem report is obtained.
