Veteran CPI(M) leader Nirupam Sen passes away in Kolkata
Veteran CPI(M) leader Nirupam Sen died at a city hospital in Kolkata this morning after a prolonged illness. The 72-year-old former commerce and industry minister of West Bengal leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter. Sen passed away at 5:10 am following a cardiac arrest. He was on life support system in the hospital since early weeks of December.
Sen was also impaired by a cerebral attack in 2013
Sen had been critical ever since his health condition deteriorated. "Sen was fighting kidney ailments. He was impaired by a cerebral attack in 2013," a hospital official said. Party sources said Sen's body would be taken to his residence and then to a private mortuary.
Sen's body will be taken to CITU office on Wednesday
"On Wednesday, Sen's body will be taken to the Kolkata office of CITU (Centre of Indian Trade Unions). After that it'll be taken to the party's state headquarters, where people will be allowed to pay their last respect," the leader said. The mortal remains of former Politburo member of the party would be consigned to flames in Burdwan, his hometown, on the same day.
