Vajpayee recovering well, will be discharged in few days: AIIMS
Former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was admitted to AIIMS-Delhi Monday, has shown significant improvement, the hospital confirmed. He's expected to be discharged in the next few days, AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria, who's also Vajpayee's personal physician, said. Vajpayee was shifted to AIIMS for what doctors initially called "routine check-up and investigations." Yesterday, they said he had been diagnosed with urinary tract infection.

Vajpayee, who suffered a stroke in 2009, has been bed-ridden since then. Due to dementia, his cognitive abilities are largely restricted. After being taken to AIIMS, he was treated for chest congestion and low urine output, apart from UTI, a statement said. Slow dialysis was given. The man is stable, confirmed Aarti Vij, Chairperson, Media and Protocol, AIIMS.
Dignitaries, including from the opposition, pay a visit to Vajpayee
PM Narendra Modi, LK Advani and Rahul Gandhi visited Vajpayee at the hospital, among others. Health Minister JP Nadda and BJP Chief Amit Shah also visited him at hospital. Minutes after the hospital announced today that he's doing well, UP CM Yogi Adityanath paid him a visit.
Vajpayee, one of India's most remarkable politicians
Vajpayee, born in 1924, entered politics during the Quit India movement of 1942. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Lucknow five times. He eventually became India's first PM from outside the Congress to serve a full five-year term, leading the NDA government. The Padma Vibhushan and Bharat Ratna awardee was also the first Indian foreign minister to address the UN Assembly in Hindi.
