    What's the story

In an ambitious move by the Uttarakhand government, over 18,000 government schools will now have 'English' as the teaching medium.

Uttarakhand's Education Minister Arvind Pandey said the introduction of 'English' as a medium of instruction will kick start from the academic year 2018-19.

State's Education Minister Pandey further said the proposed project will pan across all classes starting with Class 1.

    Context

What did the state education minister say?

State's Education Minister Arvind Pandey talked of the initiatives being taken, here are some of them.

New books in English are being arranged for the students.

A list of 75 common English sentences has been sent to state-owned schools which will be added in the daily class routine.

Moreover, teachers have been asked to write these English sentences and hang them in classrooms.

    Reason

Why the paradigm shift from Hindi to English?

Government schools in North India are synonymous with Hindi as the medium of instruction and mostly cater to poor children. To bring these children at par with other students and to help them in competing for future endeavours is the aim of education minister Arvind Pandey.

He said that children from Hindi medium schools often face challenges while pursuing higher education.

    Conclusion

Schools embrace this 'English' medium development

The government schools are quite enthusiastic about the development and the introduction of English as the medium of teaching.

They are taking up unique ways and are poaching different methods to turn this endeavour into a success.

Measures are being taken to prep the teachers in attendance to gear up to the new format.
