Dehradun: Class-10 girl raped by classmates, seniors at boarding school
A Class-10 girl was allegedly gang-raped by fellow students at a boarding school in Sahaspur in Uttarakhand's Dehradun district. Shockingly, the matter was kept under wraps by school authorities for over two weeks. Cops said the incident came to light yesterday. Four students accused of perpetrating the crime and five staffers of the school have been arrested, said Ashok Kumar, ADGP (Law and Order).
Victim was raped by classmates, seniors around a month ago
According to the police, on August 14, the victim was taken to the backyard of the hostel by a classmate on the pretext that a teacher was calling her. When she reached there she found another classmate and two seniors waiting for her. They forcibly took her behind the bushes and allegedly raped her, the police said.
Victim's sister complains to school, gets threats of suspension
The matter came to light after the survivor confessed to her elder sister upon realizing that she might be pregnant. Her elder sister, who studies in the same school, complained to the school authorities but they tried to hush it up, instead of reporting the matter to the police, said Kumar. They also threatened to suspend the sisters if they disclosed it to anyone.
Police arrested school's Director, Principal, Administrative Officer among others
In addition to the suspension threat, school authorities are even accused of trying to abort the victim's pregnancy. However, the elder sister later shared it with a relative who informed the police. While the arrested students are aged between 16-18, the school authorities who are arrested include its Director Lata Gupta, Principal Jitendra Sharma, Administrative Officer Deepak Malhotra, his wife, and a maid.
