Worried their vehicle would get 'dirty', cops let teens die
In a shocking incident, three policemen in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur refused to take to hospital two unconscious teenagers bleeding on the road, fearing that their blood would spoil the patrol car. The teens died later. The accused cops have now been suspended. A video of the incident surfaced on the internet and has since gone viral. Here's more about it.
Police patrol car reached the spot to help but didn't
Two 17-year-old friends, Arpit Khurana and Sunny, were returning home when their motorcycle hit an electricity pole. They fell into a deep drain, getting grievous head injuries. They were pulled out by local residents. A UP 100 patrol car soon reached the spot but refused to take the two to a hospital, saying their blood would stain the seats.
Bystanders pleaded for immediate aid but to deaf ears
According to NDTV, a passerby shot the three-minute video of the incident. It shows 17-year-olds bleeding on the road, unconscious. "If the car gets washed, then where will we sit all night?" one of the officers is heard saying someone's plea to rush the injured duo to a hospital. "They are also somebody's children...I request you," another is heard requesting.
Incident under investigation
It was too late by the time another patrol car arrived and rushed them to a hospital. The boys had died. The police department is probing the incident. A report is expected to be submitted with 24 hours. Ironically, the now-suspended officers were on duty as part of UP's Dial 100 project, which equips the police with more vehicles for prompt action.
