UP shocker: Minor, admitted in ICU, gang-raped, case registered
In an appalling incident, a minor was gang-raped in the ICU of a private hospital in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, where she was admitted. It is alleged a hospital staffer and four unidentified men raped the girl. The victim narrated the ordeal after she was shifted to the general ward, and police swung to action. An FIR has been lodged by police.
Victim was admitted to hospital after snake bite
The victim was admitted to the ICU after she was bitten by a snake. She was put on a ventilator. Later, on being shifted to general ward she informed authorities about what happened. Police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. A Singh, Superintendent of Police (City) said, "A case has been registered and the investigation is underway." The accused are absconding.
Earlier this year Centre made changes in the POCSO Act
After immense outrage following the Kathua gang rape, the Centre made changes in the POCSO Act, earlier this year. As per new guidelines, those convicted of raping a child up to twelve years of age will get the death penalty. The punishment for raping a woman was also increased from seven to ten years, which could be extended to life imprisonment.
