In rare event, UP man marries off wife and lover
In a reboot of 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', a man from an UP village married off his wife to her lover after learning about their affair. The wedding that took place yesterday didn't give out any sense of malice, as the husband himself placed the woman's hand in her lover's and solemnized the union. Given the rural setting, this man deserves an ovation.
Just 15-days after marriage, she left for her parents' home
On February 19, Shanti, a resident of Shyam Nagar in Kanpur got married to Sujit Gupta in a temple, following proper rituals and tradition. However, she refused to accept him as her husband and left for her parents' house a fortnight later. Sujit till now didn't sense anything was amiss, till he noticed that Shanti hadn't returned to their Sanigwana residence for long.
One day, she broke down and confessed about her affair
He approached her and asked her the reason; she refused to acknowledge anything was wrong. Sujit persisted, and finally one day, Shanti broke down and confessed that she's in love with a Lucknow-based man named Ravi Yadav (pictured). She further said she was married against her will, breaking Sujit's heart all the more. But he didn't want to force this relationship on her.
Talking to parents was more difficult than he had thought
He decided to marry off Ravi and Shanti, but first he needed to confirm if Ravi is on the same page as Shanti. He was. Sujit's next step was more difficult than he had perceived: talking to his and Shanti's parents. Putting a lot of effort, he finally convinced them. "All of us can live happily (that way)," he said.
People danced to baraat drum-beats, celebrated the marriage
He fixed a date, informed the police and arranged for the wedding in a Hanuman temple in his village. Ravi and Shanti got married yesterday, and a record number of people attended their wedding. The wedding was done with much pomp and show, where people celebrated and danced to the baraat drum-beats. "It was a lovely gesture from Sujit's side," said an attendee.
'I even thought of eliminating both, but...'
Not all was smooth for Sujit, who did battle with criminal thoughts initially, after Shanti's confession. "Initially, negative thoughts were coming to my mind and I even thought of eliminating both," he shared. But later Sujit (pictured) reconciled with the fact that it's not a legible solution. So he thought of doing something that would end well for everyone. And he surely did.
