Yogi Adityanath won't attend father's funeral due to coronavirus lockdown
This morning, Anand Singh Bisht, the father of Yogi Adityanth passed away at AIIMS Delhi and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has declared he will not be attending the last rites due to the ongoing coronavirus lockdown. Bisht was suffering from kidney and liver-related problems and his condition deteriorated in the last couple of days, reports said. Here's more.
He passed away at 10:44 am
A report in Live Hindustan said Adityanath's father underwent dialysis on Sunday and was shifted to an ICU ward later. His health didn't improve and he was put on a ventilator last evening. Bisht, who was a forest ranger, was also admitted to a Dehradun hospital a few months ago after suffering from severe dehydration. He breathed his last at 10:44 am.
Adityanath's father retired as forest ranger in 1991
After retiring as a forest ranger in 1991, Bisht lived at his ancestral village in Yamkeshwar in Uttarakhand. He was airlifted from Himalayan Hospital in Jollygrant in Pauri-Garhwal district and brought to the premier medical facility in the national capital. At AIIMS, a team led by Dr. Vineet Ahuja of the gastro department was treating him.
Jyotiraditya Scindia, Akhilesh Yadav, and Priyanka Gandhi offered condolences
After the news surfaced, BJP's Jyotiraditya Scindia offered his condolences. In a tweet posted in Hindi, he wrote, "I hope his soul rests in peace and the family gets through this hour of grief." Among others who offered condolences were Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav (who was also Adityanath's predecessor) and Congress' Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Priyanka hoped the family remains strong during these times.

Won't attend funeral due to lockdown: Adityanath
A short while ago, Adityanath released a press note saying he was upset with his father's demise but won't attend the funeral "due to the lockdown to control the spread of coronavirus." "I appeal to my mother and my relatives to follow the lockdown protocol while attending the funeral," Adityanath said, adding that he will pay a visit after restrictions are lifted.
Adityanath said he is responsible for crores of UP's citizens
"My father has always taught me to be faithful, hardworking and selfless. I wanted to be with him in his final moments, but could not due to my responsibility to protect Uttar Pradesh's 23 crore people," Adityanath went on.
Adityanath was in meeting when his father passed away
A senior bureaucrat revealed that Adityanath came to know of his father's passing away at a meeting called for the COVID-19 crisis. Despite this, he stood up from his seat only after completing the meeting, which was attended by chairpersons of 11 committees formed to tackle coronavirus. In UP, 1,084 people have been infected and 17 have died so far.
