Uttar Pradesh: Wedding celebration turns violent after groom kisses bride
A wedding ceremony in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur district took a violent turn after the groom publicly kissed his bride during the varmala ceremony on Monday. This unexpected display of affection sparked outrage among the bride's family, leading to a heated argument that quickly escalated into a physical altercation. The bride's family, armed with sticks, climbed onto the stage and attacked members of the groom's family.
Six injured in family clash, police detain 7
According to NDTV, the bride's father had arranged for his two daughters to be married on the same day. The first wedding concluded peacefully, but the second ceremony spiraled into chaos following the groom's kiss. While the bride's family alleges that the groom forcibly kissed her on stage, he maintains it was at her insistence. The clash resulted in six people getting injured, including the bride's father.
Police await formal complaint, charge individuals for disturbance
Later, police were called to the scene and seven individuals from both families were detained. The injured parties were immediately rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Senior Hapur police officer Rajkumar Agarwal confirmed that no written complaint has been received from either family yet. Meanwhile, those involved in the brawl have been charged with disturbing public peace under section 151 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
