Trump's visa-policy hits IITians' US dreams; students prefer other countries
President Donald Trump's visa policy has shattered the US dreams of IITians who bagged crore-plus offers from software-giants last year. Companies are trying to fulfill their promises, but students are wary of American offers. After Trump became President, in Dec'16, the number of US offers fell to single-digits at IITs as Japan, Taiwan, Canada, Singapore, and European countries found place on students' preference list.
Microsoft offers Canadian positions to students who bagged US jobs
Most IIT students who bagged jobs in 2016 are yet to start work in the US; some have joined the companies' India offices. Some firms are offering alternatives abroad, including Microsoft, which offered Canadian jobs. Graduates are looking forward to joining Microsoft's Canadian office, though the packages aren't the same. However, the tech-giant reportedly promised to transfer them to US after 1-2 years.
Institutes as well as companies cautious about visa policy
Though IITs are inviting American companies for placements, they are cautious that students don't face trouble. An IIT topper who got a US job was forced to join another firm after his visa application got rejected. Also, companies are cautious about the US visa policy.
