This year's UPSC topper left Google to serve India
In today's times of volatile patriotism, UPSC topper Anudeep Durishetty stands out from the crowd. The Hyderabad boy worked as a product quality analyst for Google but his goal was to serve the country. Right after he graduated from BITS-Pilani in 2011, he started preparing for UPSC and after five attempts, Anudeep finally managed to crack it this year, emerging as the topper.
Anudeep followed the opposite tide. And boy, did he succeed!
"This is a dream come true, really. I am ecstatic...It'll take some time to sink in," said Durishetty, who followed the opposite tide and left a job that could have taken him to the West. Durishetty was an Assistant Commissioner(P) in the IRS 2014 batch, but the fire in him refused to be extinguished till he became an IAS officer. He kept at it.
YouTube is the 'best tutor', says UPSC topper
Recently, he finished training at National Academy of Customs, Excise, and Narcotics in the capacity of an IRS officer. He failed four times to crack UPSC, but he followed tennis stalwart Roger Federer, who defied age and detractors to reclaim the No.2 rank from 16th in just two years. Through sheer grit, and following NCERT books, Google and YouTube, Durishetty did a Federeresque-comeback.
Anudeep is an example of definite success: Telangana Chief Minister
After achieving the incredible feat, Durushetty has become somewhat of an icon. Just yesterday, he and his parents had lunch with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Pragathi Bhavan, his official residence in Begumpet. "He is a role model to many youths in the State. Anudeep is an example of definite success if someone works hard for achieving the objective," said Rao.
Durishetty proud to work for Telangana
"This [Telangana] is the place where I was born and brought up and working here and making a difference with my work would be an honour. However, no matter where I am posted, improving health and education will be my top priorities," added Durishetty.
