UPSC introduces changes in online application process
What's the story
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced changes to its online application for the 2025 civil services preliminary exam.
The decision comes after aspirants complained of technical glitches while applying.
The UPSC has now made certain entries "editable" in the one-time registration (OTR) for the online application, including "Have you ever changed name?," "Gender," "Minority Status," and "Class 10th Board Examination Roll No."
Application details
Unchangeable entries and provisions for lost access
However, candidates won't be able to edit entries for "Name (as per Class X)," "Date of Birth," "Father's Name," "Mother's Name," "Mobile Number," and "Email ID."
If applicants lose access to their registered mobile but have access to their email ID, they can request a mobile number change with OTP sent to their email.
Likewise, if they lose email but have mobile, they can request email change with OTP sent to phone.
Recovery process
Procedure for complete loss of access
In case both mobile and email access are lost, candidates must write to UPSC at otrupsc@gov.in with identification documents and a recent photograph.
The UPSC also asks eligible PwBD candidates who want 'own scribe' assistance to provide details while applying for the preliminary exam.
These details can be updated after the preliminary exam results are announced.
Registration extension
Extended registration deadline and special provisions
The last date to register for the civil services preliminary exam 2025 and Indian Forest Service (Preliminary) test has been extended to February 18, 2025.
If a candidate's name has changed and doesn't match educational certificates, a gazette notification is required.
However, if it isn't available at the time of application, it can be uploaded after preliminary exam results are declared.
Exam information
Correction window and exam details
Candidates having integrated master's degrees should mention the same course under graduation and higher qualification columns.
A correction window will be opened from February 19-25 for any changes after submitting the application.
The civil services preliminary examination will be held on May 25, with around 979 vacancies anticipated, including 38 reserved for persons with benchmark disabilities.
